At our clinics, we offer an Active Rehabilitation Program for people who are attempting to return to normal activities. Active rehabilitation means that you take an active role in your own recovery. Under the guidance of a Physiotherapist and a Kinesiologist, you will learn to manage your injuries independently and achieve an optimal level of independence. The Physiotherapist and Kinesiologist work together to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation protocol providing pain management, education, conditioning, and therapeutic exercises.

The exercise programs are individually tailored, taking into account the individuals injury, functional limitations, level of conditioning and the requirements of their job and daily living needs. The exercise programs typically include flexibility, strengthening, core stability work, swedish ball exercises, cardiovascular, postural, work simulation, and educational components. Exercises are progressed throughout the duration of the program until a full gym exercise program, including work-specific-tasks, has been established.Exercise programs are individually tailored, taking into account your injury, functional limitations, level of conditioning and the requirements of your job and daily living needs. Exercise programs typically include:

Education:
Education is an important aspect of recovery and is stressed throughout the program. The following topics are typically addressed:
• Functional Activities: Work -specific conditioning is incorporated into every exercise program. Functional activities are designed to improve youra person’s body mechanics during movements that you ey encounter in everyday life. Often functional activities can closely mimic the demands of your joba person’s job demand, thus helping to prepare you the individual for a to return to work.
• Pain management techniques when returning to work
• Posture and correct body mechanics
• Stress management and relaxation techniques
• The benefits of exercise and staying active
• The nature of your the individuals specific injury and the healing process
A Functional Capacity Evaluation is useful when it is necessary to compare the physical abilities of a worker to the demands of a specific job. Information obtained during an FCE can be used to determine the potential for an individual to return to work, identify specific work tasks that are a barrier to return to work, and identify performance consistency and reliability. Job site visits may also be incorporated into an evaluation or treatment plan in order to assist in determining a safe and durable return to work.
At our clinic, a successful recovery not only includes a return to your pre-accident lifestyle, but also consists of a long-term, safe and effective return-to-work plan. Working together, the Physiotherapist and Kinesiologist develop a suitable return-to-work plan based on the demands of your job. Our clinic can help with devising modified work duties, a graduated return to work schedule or other options to assist you in making your return to work a success.
Clients who are not candidates for an Active Rehabilitation Program may prefer a Hydrotherapy or Pool Program. Water-based exercises are individually designed with a Physiotherapist and a Kinesiologist to help improve range of motion while providing subtle strengthening exercises. A Kinesiologist monitors each client directly in the pool so as to ensure exercises are done in the most effective way and to provide assistance when necessary. Once you have mastered the exercises, you graduate to a land-based program. Group programs are also available.
